Definite (Tranzitive) Conjugation
Note! The definite
conjugation is used in Hungarian for expressing the tranzitive function of
verbs, meaning that the action has an object in the sentence.
e.g. Olvasok. vs.
Olvasom a könyvet. Tanulok. Vs. Tanulom a latint.
The use of the
definite conjugation always requires a definite article before the object.
Most verbs require
the definite conjugation when the object is stated, however some inherently
transitive verbs can be used in the
intransitive form with the indefinite article before object.
e.g. ad (to give),
kap (to receive), vesz (to buy), hoz; Hozok egy pizzát.
Hozom a pizzát.
Note! The endings alternate based on vowel harmony, except the 3-rd person sg. and pl., which have different endings for front vowel verbs and verbs with ö, ő than the one used for back-vowel verbs.
